An empirical study finds out that ‘air rage,’ violent or disruptive behavior of either passengers or crew members during flight, can be exacerbated by the design of the physical environment. Inequality on airplanes—that is, the presence of a first class cabin and the way of boarding—correlates with the frequency of air rage incidents. The physical environment which is designed to foreground inequality can generally foster anti-social behaviors.
